This phrase has both philosophical and spiritual connotations. In the eternal search for the ultimate, it is difficult to define. Still one can reach the kernel through a process of elimination: this is not, that is not; the seeker goes on and on and an endless journey unfolds in the creative process.
My series of paintings called Neti-Neti was done on Wasli paper with water colors. A combination of natural colors and hand made acid free paper gave me an opportunity to create forms that had never before appeared in my paintings. I was no longer manipulating colors. As the colors came in contact with this paper forms emerged almost spontaneously. My role as an artist was merely to identify these forms and give them a little more life.
